The Upper Columbia Conference held a Pathfinder Camporee at Camp MiVoden in September. The event hosted 11 Pathfinder clubs, totaling 207 people in attendance. The event was also streamed online, and five clubs participated from home.
The speaker for the weekend was Rob Lang, Pathfinder director for the North Pacific Union Conference. Lang shared multiple messages reflecting the theme of the weekend, Belong, which is all about recognizing that you have a place. Lang emphasized to the Pathfinders that they do belong, and they are chosen by Christ.
“When Pathfinder clubs gather like this it reminds us that we are not alone, we are part of something bigger,” says Brower. “Conference events give kids something bigger to look forward to throughout the club year.”
Many of the Pathfinders that attended the camporee expressed their intention in furthering their relationship with Christ. “The part I’m most excited about is that 32 Pathfinders made decisions to prepare for or to be baptized,” states Brower. Additionally, 45 expressed that they want to learn more about Jesus, and 71 shared that they are baptized and want Jesus to know they are His. “That is something to celebrate. That is the reason we do what we do,” Brower adds.
The weekend included multiple activities for the Pathfinders to take part in, including pitching tents, worship, packing disaster kits, hiking, a scavenger hunt, and multiple group activities Sabbath afternoon.
While the weather was dreary and rain poured on the tarps they used for shelter, the Pathfinders maintained a good attitude. “Rain brings out the best in Pathfinders. The spirits of the kids and staff were fantastic,” shares Richie Brower, UCC Pathfinder director. “We had to adjust some of our programs due to the rain, but our volunteers pivoted and made it a great experience for the kids.”
