Christmas in July Brings Necessities to Community

July 29, 2020

Listeners donated about 500 more lbs. of food than they did last year.

Each year Shine 104.9 gives the gift of Christmas music in the summer to their listeners. The annual Christmas in July also gives listeners the opportunity to gift items to five local food banks. This year Shine 104.9 listeners donated about 5,300 lbs. of non-perishable food and personal care items.

Donations were given at five different drop off locations. Volunteers accepted the donations in the Spokane Valley near Costco; at the Better Living Center in Spokane; at the Post Falls Super 1 Store; in Coeur d’Alene at the Super 1 Store; and also in Airway Heights at the Grocery Outlet. The donations will be distributed to local food banks including the Better Living Center, Cleone's Closet Food Pantry, Serve Spokane, Post Falls Food Bank, and Community Action Partnership Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

“The amount donated this year represents a modest increase of nearly 500 lbs. over the prior year,” says Darin Patzer, station manager. “This was encouraging especially during this COVID-19 crisis.”

Operated out of the Upper Columbia Conference, Shine 104.9 serves the Spokane, Washington, area and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho corridor. The goals of the station are to share encouraging music and Biblical truth and serve the Christian community by supporting and creating awareness of local ministry events. They strive to be the hands of Christ through on-air service projects – both locally and internationally. This gift to the community fulfills the core values of Keeh 104.9fm.
