A Prayer for Recovery

December 11, 2023

Nothing he did was able to retrieve the lost programming.

by Laurinda Cutlip

Our IT director has been working very hard at programming for us. We are getting very close to the time when we need to officially begin using the new software.

He’d been tirelessly programming for three days with great progress and realized that, somehow, he’d lost his work.

Our associate IT director spent several hours throughout the afternoon and evening reviewing backups and trying various recovery techniques. Nothing he did was able to retrieve the lost programming.

They let our department know what had happened, and of course, we were all very sobered and feeling heartsick about the news. Time was of the essence, and the loss was great and disappointing.

As our team was processing the news, we bowed in prayer, reaching out to God for a miracle. We know that God cares about every detail of our lives, including every detail of His church work. We praised Him for that, asking Him to reveal Himself in our need and for the purpose of giving Him honor and glory.

We often don’t know how God works, but we know we can trust His faithfulness. The next morning when our IT director opened the same program to begin recreating the programming he had lost, God graciously answered our request for help by having more than two days’ worth of programming recovered – an answer to our prayers and a beautiful tribute to His faithfulness and care. We are humbly reminded that He is ever present in the activities of our lives, and we praise Him for His goodness and that He wants us to seek His face and ask for His presence and divine intervention!

Let’s all claim Philippians 4:6,

“Do not be anxious for anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition,

with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God,

which transcends all understanding,

will guard your hearts and minds

in Christ Jesus.” NIV
