Planned Giving & Trust

Departments

Welcome!

Welcome to the Upper Columbia Conference planned giving & trust  department. We exist to serve our members who desire to make good plans for their family, and who have a desire to do something to benefit and advance God’s work here in the Upper Columbia Conference.

We offer estate planning and updates, and we also offer guidance and coaching for individuals who wish to give current gifts and experience the joy of seeing the difference their gift is making in a ministry of the Upper Columbia Conference.

Significant beneficiaries in our Conference are often Upper Columbia Academy, Camp MiVoden, and evangelism. Individuals may also direct funds to their local school or church, or other ministries that God is impressing them to support. Giving can come in many forms — see the Giving Toolbox.

Creating an estate plan

Creating an estate plan is a relatively simple process. Many people think they need to assemble a folder full of information, and while there is some basic information you’ll need, what usually takes the most energy is making some decisions. First you’ll set up an appointment with a trust officer. This appointment will usually last from 1-2.5 hours, depending on the level of questions and/or complexity of your situation. You may head home to gather any information still needed, or to prayerfully consider questions you still are unsure of. Once completed, your information is sent off to an attorney licensed in your state, who prepares draft documents based on your situation, choices, and possibly direct conversations with you as needed. You’ll review your drafts and note corrections and changes, and once satisfied, you’ll locate a notary and witnesses and sign your documents. Then you’ll head home with the satisfaction of having a solid estate plan for your family. For more information, go to our Appointment Page.

    • Charitable Gift Annuities

Tired of low CD rates or the variations in the stock market? A CGA can give a guaranteed income (much of it income tax-free) for one or two individuals as long as they live at very attractive rates, and then give again to God’s work. Can be funded with appreciated assets, saving capital gains as well.

    • Estate Planning

One of the simplest yet most powerful ways to give, while taking care of family is to put God’s work into your estate plan. This allows you to make a substantial gift after you no longer need the assets. It is also very simple, and can be done for free through the planned giving department.
