Upper Columbia Conference Welcomes New Vice President of Education

Following a joint meeting of the conference nominating and executive committees Wednesday, January 23, 2019, Upper Columbia Conference (UCC) extended an invitation to Brian Harris to serve as the next vice president for education. Harris subsequently accepted the invitation and will replace Larry Marsh, who plans to retire at the end of February.

Harris has been serving as principal of Walla Walla Valley Academy (WWVA) since 2012. During his tenure, his tireless efforts to build a mission of empowering students for Christ has renewed the school’s commitment to students, family and alumni.

One coworker from WWVA said, “One only has to walk through the front doors to see the impact his vision and dedication has had on each of us.”

When asked about his invitation to serve with UCC, Harris said, “I look forward to building on the legacy of those who’ve come before me. I am humbled by their contributions and am excited as I look to the future. I am committed to continuing to give kids the opportunity to meet Jesus in our schools.”

Brian has a Masters of Education, with endorsements in Administration, Physical Education and History. He is member of Rotary, ASCD & NASSP. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Washington Federation of Independent School, and the Board of Trustees for Walla Walla University.

Brian began his career as an athletic director and physical education teacher for Rio Lindo Academy in 1997. He then served as principal at Palisades Christian Academy in Spokane and Cascade Christian Academy in Wenatchee.

Brian and his wife Ayrin met at Pacific Union College and married in 1996. They live in Walla Walla with their children, JT and Ellie. The family enjoys backpacking, camping, golf, baseball and their two dogs, Mollie and Moses.

Minner Labrador, Jr., UCC president, said, “Brian’s leadership, energy and innovation will be a blessing to Adventist education in Upper Columbia Conference. I am excited to welcome him to our leadership team.”
