OTHELLO Wash. May 25, 2017 - The Othello Wash. Spanish Adventist church is mourning the death of their second elder, Aaron Medel, who was killed in an auto accident, early Thursday morning.
Aaron and eight coworkers were on their way to work about 4:30 a.m. Thursday when the van they were traveling in was struck by another vehicle. Three people, including Aaron, were killed and seven others injured in the two-vehicle collision.
According to occupants of the van, an SUV with a single driver collided with the full-sized van about five miles south of George, Wash. The van then left the roadway and rolled several times.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says three of the van’s occupants died at the scene. The remainder of the van occupants and the driver of the SUV were all injured and transported to three area hospitals, either via ambulance or LifeFlight.
Adventist members who knew Aaron said, “He shared the hope of Jesus soon return. Aaron had a fire for souls.”
In addition to serving as an elder in the Otthelo Spanish Adventist Church, Aaron also served as the personal ministry director, helping members grow in their understanding of Christian service.
Aaron is survived by two brothers.
Elder Paul Hoover, president of the Adventist church in Eastern Washington, said, “I was recently in Othello for the official church organization celebration. Aaron was one of the signing charter members. My wife, Patti, and I are so very sorry. We mourn this tragic loss in the Othello community. The families of all involved as well as the extended church family are in our prayers.”
